Inspiration Behind ‘stupid’
stupid is one of the most personal and vulnerable songs we’ve ever written. It’s about those moments when you overthink everything—your relationships, your choices, even the way you see yourself. The title might seem playful, but at its core, it reflects the weight of self-doubt, the kind that sneaks in and makes you question who you are and where you’re going. We wanted to take those feelings and turn them into something honest, something that feels like a conversation with anyone who’s ever felt the same.
This song wouldn’t exist without a leap of faith and the words our dad always told us: ‘Doors are meant to be opened.’ After a Twenty One Pilots show, we worked up the courage to approach Grammy Nominated producer Jesse Blum, someone we deeply admire, knowing full well he might not even give us the time of day. Instead, he handed us his phone and told us to share our music. That small but bold act led to an incredible writing session in New York with Dr. Blum, J Glaze, and Marc Campbell (Misterwives).
Working with some of our biggest inspirations was surreal—it’s the kind of moment you dream about but never expect to happen. But it also reminded us that sometimes the biggest opportunities come from taking risks, even when it feels scary. Their energy in the room helped us bring stupid to life, creating a melody that’s as catchy as it is reflective. We poured so much of ourselves into making this song feel real, blending raw emotions with polished production.
For us, stupid is more than just a song. It’s a way to reach out to listeners who might be wrestling with their own insecurities, to remind them that they’re not alone. Self-doubt is a part of being human, but it doesn’t have to define you. This track is a testament to the power of vulnerability and the courage it takes to believe in yourself. It’s a lesson our dad taught us—to always take that leap and see what’s on the other side—and it’s one we hope resonates with everyone who hears this song.

Lyrics
Always want to be someone else
In life or it’s all a losing game
Can’t choose, some cards were dealt
I wouldn’t have it any other way
You can make up your mind
You can take all your time
I can show you my mind, let it go
You can make up your mind
You can skip all the lines
But I’d rather try to let go
I know it’s stupid
But I can’t let go of these thoughts
I’m hating that I’m feeling so alone
It’s stupid but I can’t let go of these thoughts
Hating that I hit so close to home
On my own, Close to home
It’s all I know
Always worked for what I have
Not take any for granted but God I always
Empty my pockets, Drain my account-
-able to never hold things well
I blame my thoughts, I blame myself
Is this the point where I sell out?
I know it’s stupid
But I can’t let go of these thoughts
I’m hating that I’m feeling so alone
It’s stupid but I can’t let go of these thoughts
Hating that I hit so close to home
On my own, Close to home
It’s all I know
You can make up your mind
Skip all the lines
